Providence Theological Seminary offers four fully accredited degrees in which students may take up to one year of studies by distance education.

The combination of online courses and independent studies can equal up to thirty hours of a student’s courses in the Masters of Arts degrees in Education Studies, Counselling, and Counselling Psychology and in the Master of Arts (Christian Studies) degree.

The Master of Arts (Christian Studies) program is designed to improve your ability to serve Jesus Christ in the church and the world in a lay (or possibly parachurch) ministry. It will enable you to be a more effective disciple of Christ, in all spheres of life.

The M.A. Christian Studies program will assist you in developing basic skills for studying the English Bible, both for personal spiritual development and for lay ministry.

This program gives you a high degree of freedom in putting together a program that best suits your needs and interests.

Graduates of the Master of Arts (Counselling) program practice as a mental health professional or counselling therapist. Previous graduates have found meaningful employment in ministry within their denomination, service in para-church counselling agencies, community mental health agencies both faith-based and secular, and crisis intervention programs.

This program is distinct in its integration of a theologically-informed wordview and modern psychological knowledge.

The Providence Counselling Program is also offered in Calgary at Ambrose Seminary.

The Master of Arts (Counselling Psychology) program offers the student the opportunity to further specialize in Counselling Psychology or in Marriage and Family studies, while offering the opportunity to gain invaluable additional supervised counselling experience.

Because of the further cognitive, skill, and formational training associated with the extra year of study, graduates of the three-year M.A. in Counselling Psychology are more fully equipped to practice in community settings.

The Master of Arts (Educational Studies) TESOL and TTESOL Majors focus on on developing a Christian philosophy of education and utilizes up-to-date theories and methodologies in the field of TESOL to apply that philosophy in a variety of academic, professional, or cross-cultural settings.

Graduates from the TESOL major could use this degree in a wide variety of English language education positions, teaching children or adults in Canada or abroad.

Graduates with the TTESOL major will be sought after to train teachers of English in institutions of higher education.

What we once called “mission fields” are today part of the global church, and traditional paradigms of mission are no longer adequate.

The Missiology major provides the basic theoretical and practical training for those serving as cross-cultural witnesses for Jesus Christ around the world.

The TESOL major is for people who desire to serve the church by teaching English to speakers of other languages in ecclesiastical or non-ecclesiastical settings.

The TTESOL major trains people to teach those desiring to teach English to speakers of other languages.

The Master of Arts Theological Studies is designed to ground you in the evangelical position, so that you have a framework of faith and knowledge within which to face the diverse proposals that you will encounter as you proceed to further study.

The Systematic Theology major is designed to prepare you for a teaching ministry or for doctoral research in a theological area.

The Biblical Theology major gives you intensive work in a specific area of biblical study in preparation for a teaching ministry or doctoral research. You may choose an Old Testament or a New Testament track.

M.Div Honours degree serves as a prerequisite for doctoral-level theological education.

Master Divinity (Honours)

The Master of Divinity (Honours) program requires you to write a scholarly thesis in an area of your choice under supervision of a faculty mentor. Students are closely guided in the choice of electives.

The Master of Divinity is the normal degree prerequisite for ordained pastoral ministry in the church. It is also the degree that serves as a prerequisite for doctoral-level theological education. The Honours M.Div. is particularly designed for this purpose.

The Master of Divinity (Professional) program at Providence will equip you for vocational Christian service. There are five Professional tracks: Biblical Languages, English Bible, Pentecostal Studies, Anglican Studies and Pastoral Counselling.

If you intend to prepare for a preaching/teaching ministry, you are strongly encouraged to follow the Biblical Languages, Pentecostal, or Anglican tracks. If you see yourself in the role of administration and/or Christian Education (adult, children's, or youth ministry) the English Bible tracks is for you. If you want to minister in the areas of visitation, counselling, or chaplaincy you can take the Pastoral Counselling track.
